Rainn Wilson Talks about Potential ‘Office’ Spin-Off

The Office is one of NBC’s most celebrated comedies for the Network, but it’s not their oddball sense of humor that hooks viewers in every week. No, it’s the presence the cast infuses into their characters that reels viewership in every week. Since 2008 the rumor of an Office spin-off have circulated the interweb, there’s even been hints and teases by those involved with the show but never quite brought to fruition (We came close with Parks and Recreation, but alas, no cigar).

And with so many memorable characters on the show like Ed Helms and his corky attitude as Andy Bernard, or Rainn Wilson as the ever so oddball Dwight Schrute, or Creed Bratton as, well, Creed Bratton… every character has their own memorable moments and to that extent we love them all for their strange awkward antics. But the question comes to mind; are any of them deserving of having their own spin-off? And if so, who??

According to The Hollywood Reporter the spin-off is very much alive and will be much “Weirder” then its counterpart. During last Sunday’s SAG awards actor Rainn Wilson was cornered by reporters on addressing the news regarding an Office Spin-off and Wilson confirms that a concept is in fact in the works and it’ll much more awekward in oddball humor.

“It could be really cool because It would be on his farm, which would be a bed & breakfast, and it would have a crazy menagerie of characters,” he told E!’s Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet, adding: “It would be even more far out and weirder than The Office… it’s a good idea.”

According to the THR the concept might get a test of sorts on an upcoming episode of The Office later this season. Wilson, along with Office co-star Paul Lieberstein and executive producer Ben Silverman, are believed to be involved, though the actor suggested the spin-off is just an idea at this point, the possibility is still very much alive and well.

Extra Tidbit: If you could pick one character from The Office to get their very own spin-off, who would you like to see?

“The Office” Leslie David Baker is a Ladies Man in Début Single!

Now days it’s a highly common thing to see actors take a stab at the music scene, it’s not a surprise really, I mean celebrities have been doing it for decades. However there comes a time when a rarity such as this comes along and you can’t help but say “Whaaa!” followed by “Yeaaah!” for some, what I speak of might come as a bit of old news, but I assure you that those of you who haven’t seen it yet will no doubt be in shock because there is nothing more surprising and epic then seeing NBC’s The Office very own Leslie David Baker rock it out in his autotune dance début single “2 Be Simple” (Featuring N.U.M.).

Now I know what you’re thinking, anytime the word “autotune” is brought up involving a song it can’t be good, well I assure you while that might be the case this is the exception as we see ol’ Leslie work his smooth moves with the ladies (you one sly dog Les), and trust me you’ll be laughing with excitement by the end of the video. Now scroll down and see why Leslie is the man when it comes to all the ladies! See him rocking it out Ke$ style!

Extra Tidbit: Now I know why Stanley is always eager to get the hell out of Dunder-Mifflin at the end of the day, I would too if I had a house full of hotties waiting for me.

NBC’s “Awake” Gets Premiere Date!

While it’s a considerably slow day for entertainment news, I am happy to report that after months of unconfirmed hearsay and rumors, one of NBC’s most promising new shows is finally getting a release date! The NBC show “Awake” is now set for a March 1st premiere which has successfully bumped another new NBC show “The Firm” from its Thursday night timeslot. I am personally happy to hear this news because not only am I a fan of Jason Isaacs, but a solid fan of sci-fi as well. March 1st cannot get here soon enough.

Awake is a Sci-fi/Drama starring “Harry Potter” alum Jason Isaacs as a detective who survives a horrific car crash that causes his life to split into two separate “realities” in which his wife was killed in one and his son in the other. Which of the two is real is beyond him, and will he be able to make the ultimate choice to choose which is real? The premise alone is very intriguing for me, and I’m sure if done right, the show could be a success. Only time will tell whether or not NBC can pull off another sci-fi hit in these trying times.

FatHead Films Co-owner Announces Formation of New Film Company

FatHead Films co-owner Justin R. Romine has announced the formation of a new film company, Sweet Berry Wine Productions. Romine, the director of the controversial independent films What They Say (Best Actress Heather Dorff, 2011 Chicago Horror Film Festival) and Afraid of Sunrise (Best Actor nominee Andy Schatner, 2011 Chicago Horror Film Festival), said he started Sweet Berry Wine Productions in order to separate grittier upcoming projects from those at FatHead, which is in pre-production for the children’s chiller Trapped.

Asserting he will remain equally involved with FatHead Films, Romine explained: “Sweet Berry Wine Productions was created so I could delve into the darker, more adult and horror-oriented materials. This will give us a platform to showcase those films, whereas with FatHead Films, we can focus on the education and acting prowess of the children we work with on a regular basis.”

Sweet Berry Wine Productions is in pre-production for its first films under the new banner, including What in the Sam Hill, written by and starring Willy Adkins (Spook Show Entertainment), and featuring Michael Schmid (4Lizard Productions) and Romine. Also in pre-production is soon-to-be cult classic Zombie Clowns, written by Romine and Adkins, and The Good Life, where Romine will be teaming up with former UNLV classmates Dustin Martin (Plainfield Entertainment) and Jason Tillmon. These three films are only the first of many, Romine promised.

Sweet Berry Wine Productions is also happy to announce that they will be involved in FatHead T.V., a horror sketch-comedy show that will be playing regularly on local cable. Romine says film is not Sweet Berry Wine’s only interest, however. “The studio is open to all facets of media and art. Having met, befriended, and worked with so many people opens up a huge avenue for us to discover all kinds of mixed media.” Romine says that the company will also offer instruction in screenwriting, acting, directing, filmmaking, producing, and editing, among other things. Romine instructs college classes in film, literature, and screenwriting. Private instruction is also available.

‘Hand of Glory’ Director Responds to Threat of Picketing Premiere

Jan. 25, 2012 – Stuart Wahlin, writer and director of upcoming thriller Hand of Glory, responded today to what he described as a “veiled threat from anonymous cowards” who allegedly plan to picket the film’s March premiere at the Indie Horror Film Fest in Chicago.

Wahlin said he received the message from an individual via Facebook, an online social-networking community. The message expressed concern regarding the content of the upcoming film, which centers on an alcoholic prostitute.

“When we learned your movie is to include a child-rape scene, we found that particularly troublesome,” the message indicated. “That eclipses the already-questionable glorification of alcohol abuse, degradation of women, violence, murder and immoral spiritual themes.”

The message signature claimed to be from a group calling itself the “Coalition for Decency and Ethics in Film,”or CDEF, but when Wahlin tried to reply to the individual’s message, he found the account had been deleted.

Calling the tactic cowardly, Wahlin noted the sender also suggested the group would “crash the party…to send a clear message that this type of irresponsible trash has no place in cinema.”

Wahlin, however, feels the anonymous sender is overreacting.

“I can count on one hand the number of people on my crew who’ve seen the film, so I know it hasn’t been leaked,” Wahlin stated. “Without having seen it, these [CDEF] people simply don’t know what they’re all in a huff about. This guy’s distorted summary of what we believe to be an excellent film is unfortunate, because I’m willing to bet it’ll be one of the tamer pictures at the festival.”

Wahlin said he hasn’t had an opportunity to discuss this development with promoters yet, but that he’d understand if asked to withdraw from the festival.

“There are a lot of great films screening that weekend, and I don’t want to be the reason someone’s big day is ruined if these people show up with megaphones and picket signs,” he concluded.

Extra Tidbit: I can’t help but wonder if this group will actually show up or not during the festival.

First Look: Vin Diesel Back in Action as Riddick!

Remember the year 2000? Sure you do, it was a fairly decent year for movies! One in particular that comes to mind was a sci-fi horror film starring a yet to be known New Yorker who’s career would blow up into mega-action stardom! Yep you guessed it right, I’m talking about Pitch Black (2000). You remember four years later when we were all served up a sequel called The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)? Sure you do, it vastly differed from its predecessor in both theme and tone when the horror element was dropped completely? Remember the awesome sequel that followed? No? Yeah me neither… We were told about one in the works and even teased about it over the years, but that was about as far as it went, talks and negations. And eight years later what do we have for show? Well I’m glad you asked because we’re finally getting a third entry in the series! And even better there’s proof! Below is the first official still of actor Vin Diesel in full Riddick gear, which was shared by his official Facebook page.

Little is known about when we’ll be seeing this flick hit the sliver screen at the moment but here’s the synopsis: “Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.”

As of right now the official cast list includes: Vin Diesel. Karl Urban. Katee Sackhoff. And Jordi Molla. With Director David Twohy set to direct.

Extra Tidbit: with nearly eight years since its last sequel do you think the series will be able to muster up enough steam to get the fans back in the seats?

First Look at Resident Evil: Retribution

I was a big fan of the first Resident Evil film back in 2002 despite it not quite living up to the material it’s based on, and as cheesy as it’s follow up ‘Apocalypse’(2004) was I still fairly enjoy the hell out of it. That being said however, I was not a really big fan of its third entry in the series ‘Extinction’ (2007), but it somehow managed to redeem itself with the third sequel ‘Afterlife’ (2010) now barely two years later and we’ve already got another installment on its way with RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION!

If you haven’t seen it already earlier in the week then the first official stills of fifth entry in the Resident Evil franchise has been released Via Twitter Here and Here

Synopsis: The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington DC, and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.Resident Evil: Retribution is starring: Milla Jovovich. Kevin Durand. Michelle Rodriguez. Jason Isaacs. Sienna Guillory. Oded Fehr. Johann Urb. Bingbing Li. Shawn Roberts. And Colin Salmon. And is set to be released in theaters everywhere September 17th. 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Wow! Talk about a reunion of a few familiar faces making their epic return in the franchise. It’s a shame Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller won’t be returning as Claire and Chris Redfield.

Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga Set to star in James Wan’s The Conjuring

Director James Wan has only five features under his belt (according to IMDB) and yet he’s already considered by some as a master of horror. Personally I’ve only had the pleasure seeing four of his five films, three of which are among my favorite films of the 2000 era, On the other hand, the fourth is one of my least favorites (wouldn’t you like to know which one is that?) Last year’s box office success ‘INSIDIOUS’ was a tremendous success both critically and finically pulling in over $54 million domestically while racking in just a few million shy of a cool $100 million worldwide on a budget of only, get this; $1.5 Mill! Insidious (Limited release in 2010) is probably one of the most profitable horror films of 2011. So with that type of numbers pulled in on such an impressively small budget you have to respect James Wan for always attracting such a top notch cast in all his features.

So with that being said, it only makes sense that he’d keep the paranormal theme going right into his next project THE CONJURING. According to The Hollywood Reporter actor Patrick Wilson (Insidious) and Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) are going to play “a husband and wife team of demonologists and psychic investigators who enter the most horrifying case of their career, spirits in a Rhode Island farmhouse.”

The Conjuring is written by Chad and Carey Hayes and is “based on the real life tale of the Perron family and their ordeals in the 1970s. When New Line acquired the pitch from the Hayes, it included life rights to the Perron family and the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.” Filming is slated to begin this March in North Carolina with a TBA 2013 release date.

Extra Tidbit: I wonder how Wan will handle the supernatural aspect of the plot since it’s based on a true story, will he give it the poltergeist treatment?

Words Like Knives!

The most dreadful thing about a rumor is that it’s like a feather in the wind; once it gets momentum there’s no telling where or how far it will go, but the worst part about the existence of a rumor about you is the long term repercussions that comes with the territory. The more time passes by, the more the rumor becomes fact, and once that happens, it becomes truth. Words Like Knives is an up and coming psychological horror written, produced and starring Kelsey Zukowski (What They Say and Echo Lake) the WLK is a compelling short that deals with real world issues such as rumors and how dangerous they can be to someone’s life, and how far it can spiral a person down to the edge of sanity.

Synopsis: Emma has a loving family, caring boyfriend, and loyal best friend. One rumor might rip this all away from her though. She fights to hold on to her old life as one mean-spirited rumor becomes so real she can’t find the light through the encompassing darkness. Emma tries to run from it, but it becomes so real and takes on a life of its own. She finds herself powerless to it and unable to distinguish rumor from reality. What if she can’t escape it and hold on to her dwindling sanity?

Words Like Knives is a short dark drama written and starring Kelsey Zukowski and directed by Travis Legge. It also features Jeff Scaduto, Valerie Meachum, Myke Wilson, Melissa Revels, and Aley Kreinz. Shooting is scheduled for April 2012 in Rockford, IL.

Legge and Zukowski first worked together in March of 2011 on a Grindhouse trailer entitled, Monster Mash, which also starred Revels and Kitsie Duncan. Legge was a producer on the dark short, What They Say, which Zukowski wrote and acted in. The film was nominated for Best Short at The Chicago Horror Film Festival in September of 2011.

Legge has worked with the entire primary cast before, being well aware of their abilities and how they work best. Valerie Meachum appeared in Legge’s twisted Christmas short, Holiday Carvings, as well as Legge’s first feature film, Raymond Did It. Myke Wilson directed one of Travis’ scripts, Event Invitation, which wrapped filming in October of 2011. Legge worked with Melissa Revels both in Monster Mash and Windershins along with a number of projects they have in the works.

“Words Like Knives deals with very disturbing material, but that’s part of the point. I like tackling uncomfortable material. I find it far more interesting. It’s a delicate balance between seeming exploitative and meaningfully bringing out the darker side of humanity. I’m thrilled with the team that has signed on for the project. Everyone involved really believes in what the film is trying to accomplish and will be a part in bringing this disquieting vision to life”
Said Zukowski while discussion the upcoming project.

Although, it tackles very taboo material it also deals with the universal themes of a rumor spinning out of control and how damaging idle gossip can be. It simply takes this to a more severe level and examines the possibility of the horrors that can be locked deep inside any one of us when pushed far enough.
